Lower School Philosophy
Lower School students at Stone Ridge are introduced to a series of
fundamental skills which form a strong and solid foundation for their
later years of study. Careful attention is given to using varied
instructional approaches and plenty of opportunities for hands-on
learning. Field trips are often an extension of the classroom
learning experience. Strong emphasis is placed on learning moral
lessons along with academics. The atmosphere is one of love and
respect which helps foster self-discipline, a sense of
responsibility, and a concern for others. The Lower School works in
conjunction with the Middle School and Upper Schools to prepare the
girls to be successful as they progress through Stone Ridge.
Daily Life
Students begin each day with assembly at 8:00 a.m. Assembly is a time for the
children to share what they have been learning with the rest of the
Lower School. Junior
Kindergarten through Second Grade join together for recess and lunch,
as do the Third and Fourth Grades. Students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m.
Homework is part of life in Lower School in order to reinforce
classroom work and foster responsibility, but will be kept to a
minimum, increasing slightly during the years as the
students prepare for Middle School.

Campus Resources
Stone Ridge is located on thirty-five acres, with the Lower School
building connecting to both the Middle and Upper Schools. The Lower
School has its own library, cafeteria, and play-ground, sharing the
swimming pool, three gymnasiums, playing fields, and chapel with
all grade levels.
Technology is also a strong focus in the Stone Ridge program, giving
even the youngest children benefits of the modern world. Computers and software are used to support enrichment, remediation, and drills,
enhancing the curriculum in all subject areas.

Extended Day
Program
Stone Ridge offers an Extended Day program that operates from 3:00
p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Students are supervised while having time to do
their homework, free playtime, art activities, and organized games.
A snack is also provided and fees are assessed depending on the
number of days per week the student attends.
Parent & School
Interaction
The Lower School believes in fostering a strong relationship between
parents and Stone Ridge. Report cards are sent home four times a
year in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade and twice a year in Junior
Kindergarten. The school also welcomes the input of parents regarding their
insights and expectations for their children, and expects participation in parent conferences.

Middle School Transition
The Lower School works in conjunction with the Middle and
Upper Schools to prepare the girls to be successful as they progress
through Stone Ridge. Transition to the Middle School is a
gradual process during both Third and Fourth Grades. Gradually, more
responsibilities as well as higher expectations are given to the
students, helping them to feel confident about their next step.
