TRADITIONS Through Campus Ministry and religion classes, the students learn to
reach out and help others. Projects such as supporting the work of
Operation Smile, donating clothes and toys at Christmas, or singing
at Manor Care Nursing Home, are an important element of the overall
program in the Lower School.
Primes is a special weekly assembly
of the Lower School community for First through Fourth Grade. It is
a celebration for teachers and students when effort and achievement
are recognized. Students are rewarded for exhibiting behaviors they
strive to emulate, such as good manners, excellent work, or
leadership.
Grandparent's Day is held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in alternate, even numbered years. We invite all grandparents to come and spend time with their grandchildren in the Lower School.
The Mother's Day Carnival alternates with Grandparent's Day and
is held in odd-numbered years. Special events are planned for this
morning to give the mothers and daughters a chance to play and work
together.
A congé is a "play day" at
school and is a favorite tradition among Sacred Heart students to
build community while keeping a spirit of fun about school. It is
celebrated as a whole school community in honor of St. Madeline
Sophie Barat's Feast day.
Field Day is celebrated the first week of June with the entire
Stone Ridge community from the First Grade through the Twelfth
Grade. Activities include Father-Daughter races, a cookout lunch,
music, and the awarding of prizes.
