ACHIEVEMENTS

Casey Gemunder ’07, a freshman at Davidson College, received a 2006-2007 Scholar Athlete Award from Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS) on October 4, 2007, and was named to the 2006-2007 Scholastic All-American Team. The purpose of the Scholar Athlete award is to emphasize the importance of scholastic achievement through a program that recognizes the scholastic excellence of Potomac Valley swimmers. PVS, the local committee in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for USA Swimming—the National Governing Body (NGB) for competitive swimming in this country—has over 8,000 swimmers who compete in programs ranging from novice to the Olympic competition level. Scholar Athletes are PVS-USA Swimming athletes who have completed Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 during 2006-2007 at a public or private secondary school; attained a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) for the entire 2006-2007 academic year; and achieved a 3.5 or higher event standard average in a minimum of five events. Please visit www.pvswim.org for more information about Potomac Valley Swimming.

Carla Bosco '89, Stone Ridge librarian and alumna, has been appointed to serve two divisions of the American Library Association (ALA) — the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).

Ms. Bosco will serve on the AASL/ACRL Joint Committee on Information Literacy. "This committee focuses on how to prepare K-20 students to be information literate and provides a channel of communication to the respective divisions. In general, this joint committee is a forum for sharing ideas on information literacy in K-20 environments and a source of professional development opportunities in this area."

In addition, Ms. Bosco is a member of the AASL Teacher Resources Task Force, "which is commissioned to develop a list of the top twenty-five Internet sites that the AASL will recognize as being the "best of the best" for curriculum development."
