| Casey Gemunder ’07, a freshman at
Davidson College, received a 2006-2007 Scholar
Athlete Award from Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS)
on October 4, 2007, and was named to the
2006-2007 Scholastic All-American Team. The
purpose of the Scholar Athlete award is to
emphasize the importance of scholastic
achievement through a program that recognizes
the scholastic excellence of Potomac Valley
swimmers. PVS, the local committee in the
Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for USA
Swimming—the National Governing Body (NGB) for
competitive swimming in this country—has over
8,000 swimmers who compete in programs ranging
from novice to the Olympic competition level.
Scholar Athletes are PVS-USA Swimming athletes
who have completed Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 during
2006-2007 at a public or private secondary
school; attained a 3.5 or higher grade point
average (GPA) for the entire 2006-2007 academic
year; and achieved a 3.5 or higher event
standard average in a minimum of five events.

| Carla Bosco '89, Stone Ridge
librarian and alumna, has been appointed to
serve two divisions of the American Library
Association (ALA) — the American Association
of School Librarians (AASL) and the
Association of College and Research Libraries
(ACRL).
Ms. Bosco will serve
on the AASL/ACRL Joint Committee on Information
Literacy. "This committee focuses on how to
prepare K-20 students to be information literate
and provides a channel of communication to the
respective divisions. In general, this joint
committee is a forum for sharing ideas on
information literacy in K-20 environments and a
source of professional development opportunities
in this area." In addition, Ms. Bosco
is a member of the AASL Teacher Resources
Task Force, "which is commissioned to develop
a list of the top twenty-five Internet sites
that the AASL will recognize as being the "best
of the best" for curriculum development." |

Alexandra Armstrong '56, the only woman

"Business Hall of Fame 2006". Described as "a

of Armstrong, MacIntyre & Severns, a firm she
