Luncheon Discussion with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend x'69 on "Failing America’s Faithful”
July 30, 12:00 p.m.

You are invited to a conversation with Stone Ridge alumna Kathleen Kennedy Townsend x’69, former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, and John Seigenthaler, founder of First Amendment Center, on "Failing America’s Faithful: How Today’s Churches are Mixing God with Politics and Losing their Way" [Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s latest book release.] The luncheon discussion, which is sponsored by the Newseum and the National Press Club's Book and Author Committee, will be held at the National Press Club [529 14th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20045] on July 30 at noon. It is free-of-charge, but reservations are required via e-mail to Books will be available for sale. No outside books are permitted.

As religion has increasingly become part of the language of politics, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend contends that America’s churches have drifted from their traditions of working for the greater good. In her book "Failing America's Faithful: How Today’s Churches are Mixing God with Politics and Losing their Way," she issues a call for what she maintains is a return to the traditional role of America's churches to promote social welfare. Looking back on her Catholic upbringing and its traditions of social justice, she concludes that the mingling of faith and politics has distorted religion and left Americans adrift. Join in the discussion about faith, politics, and the future of America.
