MISTLETOE MANIA 2007
Deck the Halls and Help Raise Walls!
Saturday, December 22, 2007
Congratulations to Board Fifteen for a successful evening.
A special thank you to Miguel Carrillo ('91 graduate
of St. John's College High School) our emcee for the evening. Miguel is
one of D.C.'s finest stand-up, improv, sketch comedians. (see bio. below)
Thanks
to all those who came out to support the event, the Alumnae
Association was able to raise enough donations to participate in
Rebuilding Together's
Washington, DC revitalization of Anacostia Park. Rebuilding Together was recently awarded a
grant from HGTV's Change the World Revitalization effort to:
- Build a playground for at risk children at a daycare center on
Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue;
- Install a chairlift into a home so that the elderly homeowner
can reach his 2nd floor – where the only shower in the home is
located;
- Significantly rebuild the home of a severely disabled woman
who has 5 children Repair collapsed ceilings and floors in
multiple homes so that residents may be safe in their own homes.
The Alumnae Association will
partner with Upper School students, those that attended the evening
fundraiser, other local corporations, and Rebuilding Together in an
effort to revitalize Anacostia park in Washington, DC. The
afternoon of social action is scheduled to take place the last
weekend in April. Stay tuned for details.
