The Lifeguard Challenge Program
The Aquatic Center offers The Lifeguard Challenge at Stone Ridge. This is given through the American Lifeguard Association and is accepted by All Montgomery County-operated swimming pools for summer employment. This class is open to our students as well as siblings and students outside of Stone Ridge.

Prerequisites:
Must be fifteen years old;
Must be able to swim 500 yds continuously using the following strokes for at least 100 yds each: Freestyle, Breaststroke, and Elementary Backstroke; and
Tread water for two minutes.

Here's how it works:
The Lifeguard manual, CPR and First-Aid texts, VCR tapes, and work sheets will be available for you to study/view in the pool classroom at all times during the school day, after school until 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. This class allows you to look over the material and complete the work sheets at your own pace and when your schedule allows. All work needs
to be done prior to the challenge date on March 18. Upon successful completion, a skill test, practical work in the water, and a short multi-question exam(s).

This allows you to work at your own pace and fit the course into your busy schedules. There is no formal instructional class prior to the challenge. You are more than welcome to practice in the pool after viewing the tapes. We will provide an open lane for you to practice and assist you if needed.

** Classroom materials is available for viewing in the pool classroom.
