The Stone Ridge Infirmary is located on the Fifth Floor, in Room
562. Infirmary hours are 8:00 a.m.–3:45
p.m. The School Nurse works directly with the Head of School and
counselors on all aspects of health (emotional, mental, physical,
and environmental). She meets regularly with the Head of School for
discussion of the program.
The School Nurse maintains the health records and immunization
history of all students and shares pertinent health information with
faculty. The nurse is required to dispense all medications
(prescription and non-prescription) at Stone Ridge. She is available
to assist faculty and staff with the health care needs and referrals
to outside physicians. The School Nurse provides the following
services to the Stone Ridge community:
First Aid
- Administers first aid in emergencies;
- Informs parents immediately should anything serious occur;
- Prepares a plan for the care of the sick and injured child;
and
- Completes accident reports and submits insurance claim
forms, if necessary.
Screening and Vaccination
- Performs vision screening in the Lower School;
- Conducts spinal screening in the Middle School’s Seventh
Grade;
- Communicates with parents as needed on screenings and makes
referrals to outside specialists; and
- Administers the annual influenza vaccine.
Education
- Co-teaches Family Life in the Fourth through Eighth Grades,
with the Lower and Middle School Counselor;
- Trains faculty and physical education personnel in
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated
External Defibrillators (AEDs);
- Trains all First Academic students in CPR/AED certification;
- Implements the Occupational and Safety Health
- Administration’s (OSHA) standards for bloodborne pathogens;
assures compliance and training as required and maintains the
Exposure Control Plan;
- Participates in the Upper School Social
Action program; and
- Serves as a resource for health career
counseling and consultant and/or specialty teacher for faculty when
teaching health education.
Awareness
- Coordinates the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive; and
- Implements awareness programs on wellness and education for
the entire school community, including Heart Health Awareness
Month and The Great American Smokeout.
Committees
- Serves on the School Guidance Committee in the Middle and
Upper Schools;
- Coordinates and facilitates the Stone Ridge Health
Committee, an advisory committee comprised of teachers,
administrators and health professionals, which meets twice a
year to discuss various health issues; and
- Meets with the County and State Representatives and prepares
statistical data for the Montgomery County Health Department.
