Visual Arts Center
Atelier
The incredible, new, spacious, and airy arts classroom
containing approximately 2,000 square feet of space was completed in
the summer of 2005 for the Upper School fine arts program. In
response to the growing program, and with only some minor
disturbance, we were able to expand onto
the flat rooftop space outside the Upper School photography
classrooms and create a magnificent penthouse studio overlooking the
woods and hills of our thirty-five acre campus. With the addition of
this studio, we have a superior fine arts atelier, complete with
skylights and Palladian windows. For the first time, we are able to
combine and consolidate our Upper School fine arts students and
teachers in an open and light-filled space, a space dedicated to
studio art, drawing and painting, adjoining our current ceramics and
photography classrooms. This new studio is two and a half times
larger than the classroom space formerly used for drawing, painting,
and designing, and serves as an inspiration to
the creative process of generations of Stone Ridge students. We are
very proud of this lovely addition to our fine arts program and
would be pleased to share it with you. Feel free to schedule a tour
with Meridith Bolado.
Aquatic Center
In the summer of 2005, we enclosed our competition-sized swimming
pool. We now have a true, year-round use, aquatic center. This
wonderful facility includes the Aquatic Director’s Office, a
classroom, bleachers, changing rooms, and rest rooms. The pool has
the standard equipment along with two
diving wells, starting blocks, lane ropes and boards. A generous
donor has asked to name our Victory Bell atop the Aquatic Center’s
belfry, which students ring out on the occasion of all athletic
victories. What a grand legacy! This now completed project provides
Stone Ridge with one of the premier pools in the Washington, D.C.
metropolitan area. Our Aquatic Director has an ambitious schedule
of use for Stone Ridge swimmers, students and families. With a
sliding roof and sides, the pool is open for our summer campers and
recreational swimmers, as well. Come and see the beautiful “Gator”
mosaic in the tile floor of the entrance foyer... Maybe
you will want to give it a “name” and create another Stone Ridge
legacy.
